> When and how to grant a late leasing lessee a postponement or a revision of an installment, without losing control of your collections.

A lessee going through a temporary difficulty is not a lost lessee. Granting extra time can let you recover a rent installment that litigation would bring in neither faster nor more surely. But it must be done methodically.

## Postponement, revision, penalty, default: don't mix everything up

| Lever | What it is | When to use it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Postponement** | Moving an installment's date | Temporary, dated cash-flow difficulty |
| **Amount revision** | Changing an installment's amount | Commercial agreement on a different amount |
| **Penalty** | Charging for the delay (daily rate or fixed amount) | If your contract provides for it and you want to apply it |
| **Move to default** | Considering the contract as defaulting beyond a delay threshold | Prolonged delay, opening of specific handling |

These levers are not mutually exclusive, but order matters: postponing an installment and then applying a penalty for the postponed period sends the lessee a contradictory message.

## Before granting a postponement: four questions

1. **Is the difficulty temporary?** A delay caused by a collection lag at the lessee's end is nothing like a lasting drop in activity.
2. **Does the lessee have a reliable history?** A customer who has always paid deserves a flexibility that a customer already chased several times does not necessarily deserve.
3. **Is the new date realistic?** A postponement without a credible commitment simply pushes the problem back.
4. **How many postponements do you accept?** Set a rule (for example once per contract) so you don't decide case by case under pressure.

## What this looks like on virement.tn

- **Postponing an installment**: you choose a new date, no earlier than today or the current due date if that is later. The installment's delay is reset to zero immediately.
- **Revising its amount**: you change the installment's amount, including when it is already overdue.
- **Generating a penalty**, if the contract provides for one and you configured a daily rate or fixed amount when creating it; it is issued as a separate invoice, linked to the contract.

An already overdue installment remains visible and payable by the lessee: postponing it does not make it disappear from their space.

## What the tool doesn't do for you

virement.tn **does not automatically reschedule** a remaining balance over new installments, and does not replace the amendment that formalizes the agreement. A postponement is an action on one installment; restructuring a contract in difficulty remains a decision for the leasing company.

## Keep a record

Whatever solution you choose, document it: the date of the request, the reason, the decision, the new installment and the lessee's agreement. In the event of a later dispute, this is what protects both parties.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can you postpone an already overdue installment on virement.tn?

Yes. An installment can be postponed to a new date even if it is already overdue; its number of days late is then reset to zero. Its amount can also be revised.

### Does virement.tn recalculate the whole schedule after a postponement?

No. The postponement or revision acts on one installment at a time. The platform does not automatically reschedule the remaining balance over new installments: such a rescheduling remains to be decided and organized by the leasing company.

### Does a postponement need to be formalized?

Yes, in writing, according to what your contract provides (amendment, agreed exchange). It is a contractual decision before it is a tool setting.
